Forestville, MD - (December 2008) - Marlo Furniture announces a partnership with the Collective Banking Group, granting members a discount while also donating a percentage of member purchases to aid families in need.
Marlo Furniture has a long-standing history of community involvement and charitable donations. “This collaboration offers yet another platform for giving back to the community that has sustained us for over 50 years” explained David Weinstein, the company’s Chief Operating Officer. Reverend Dr. Kerry A. Hill, President of the Collective Banking Group agrees, “It is our mission to establish relationships with businesses in our community who share our vision of working together ‘collectively’ to economically empower our members. We welcome the opportunity to join with Marlo Furniture as we encourage our members to support businesses that give back to our community”.
Marlo Furniture is a family-owned business that started in 1955 with a single store in downtown Washington, DC. Today, Marlo is the Washington area’s largest furniture retailer with four showrooms located around the Beltway in Alexandria, Forestville, Laurel and Rockville. More than 1 million Washingtonians have bought their furniture at Marlo. The Collective Banking Group is an association of over 150 churches whose mission is to establish covenant relationships with member churches and partnerships with organizations for economic empowerment by providing a wide range of financial and business services for their members.
Marlo Furniture’s annual Charity Golf Tournament is set for September 22, 2008 at Patuxent Greens Country Club in Laurel, Maryland. Last year’s tournament, with more than 80 participants, raised nearly $6,000 which the Company donated to Laura’s Room at Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC.
For eight years, Marlo Furniture has invited employees, vendors and suppliers to its Charity Golf Tournament. “It’s a way for the Marlo family to come together with those who support us throughout the year,” explained Jim Graf, Inventory Control Manager and organizer of the golf event. “We don’t discuss work. It’s just a time to get to know one another better while contributing to a great cause.” Children’s Hospital has been the charity recipient of the tournament in years past. For the last two years, Marlo has designated the funds to Laura’s Room, a teen-only recreation room at the hospital. Laura’s Room was created in memory of Laura Gale Nerenberg, a local women devoted to helping children grapple with the challenges of illness, who died of complications of Juvenile Diabetes in 1996 at age 31.
Proceeds from the 2008 Marlo Charity Golf Tournament will once again benefit Laura’s Room. Forestville, Md. – (March 2006) - Marlo Furniture, located in Forestville, Md., unveiled a new face earlier this year, and customers couldn’t be happier.
“Shopping has always been fun at Marlo,” said Susan Outchault, a Marlo customer for over 20 years,” but now it’s so much easier! The minute you walk in the door, you know exactly where to go,” she said.
It was less than a year ago that Marlo Furniture remodeled its store and introduced a new way to buy furniture. Now, when customers enter the store, they have eight options from which to choose: Designer Avenue, Traditional Living, Relax and Recline, Mattress Express, Leather Studio, New Directions, and Modern Collections, and Kids Kingdom.
“We recognize that our customers are busy and that their time is precious. We’re pleased to make furniture buying easier and more exciting for our customers,” said Neal Glickfield, president, Marlo Furniture.
“The new look is fresh, airy and quite striking,” said Pam Mosko, another satisfied Marlo customer. “Not only is the new layout beautiful to the eye, it’s also much easier to maneuver,” she said.
New merchandise has also been added to appeal to a broader client base, says Mark Stuart, Vice President, Merchandising, Marlo Furniture. “There’s something for everyone. We’ve included a variety of new designers to enhance the existing product line, including a new line soon to be released by Cristina Saralegui of The Cristina Show on Univision.” TIME magazine voted Cristina as one of the most influential Hispanics in America. “It’s exciting when you can bring on a big name like Cristina. Her new line of furniture is sure to attract a lot of attention,” Stuart added.
Marlo Furniture has a strong presence in the D.C. market. Stores are located in Forestville, Laurel, Rockville and Alexandria, but it’s the Forestville location that was chosen to be the first store remodeled.
“Our Forestville store is our grande dame, said Glickfield. “It’s the first showroom we opened, so it’s very special to us. We’re committed to Prince George’s County and we have so many customers to thank,” he said.
Councilman Samuel H. Dean of the 6th District in Prince George’s County participated in the grand opening and loves what Marlo has done. According to Dean, the service that Marlo provides is extremely beneficial to the citizens of Prince George’s County. “I take my hat off to Lou Glickfield (founder of Marlo) for investing in Prince George’s County,” he said.
Due to the overwhelming response to the remodeling of the Forestville store, Marlo has committed to changing the face of all of its stores. Renovations in the Alexandria store will soon be completed, and renovations in the Rockville and Laurel stores will soon begin. A new store is expected to open in Chantilly, Va., and a new distribution and clearance warehouse will be located in Bowie, Md.
According to Glickfield, Marlo is committed to improving the customer experience and this is just the beginning. Remodeling existing stores, creating new stores, incorporating new furniture lines, and building a new distribution and clearance center are already taking place. An improved customer care system has been developed to ensure that furniture is delivered on-time without problems, customer concerns and complaints are dealt with in a timely fashion, and that information is provided on the proper care of purchased items. The future of Marlo Furniture is here and now.
